Our Mission

Living history and experimental archeology are at the hear of what the Light Company of the King's Regiment holds as its purpose, supporting new and experienced individuals in seeking out opportunities to volunteer with numerous societies and historic sites towards this goal. If you are looking to potentially join the regiment, contact us through our contact section (above) to find out more about what may be in store for you. Before you join, it's important that you know who and what we are.

The 8th (the King’s) Regiment of Foot - Light Company and the Civilians of Canada has been established as a means through which the Canadian living history community can attempt to recreate, experience and research the lives of those who not only fought for what would become Canada, but the lives of those who made up the Province of Quebec (now Ontario and Quebec).

Whether it be a recreation of 18th century military life, a canoe trek across the original portage routes, or an evening of gambling and sport in the 18th century manner, this organization is intended to bring together various people, regardless of background and ability, and to permit them to learn about what life held for all those living within this region, during the period of the 18th century, with a focus on though not limited to the American Revolution. Our standards are exceedingly high, with handsewn and hand made accoutrement, as well as clothing and accessories, our drill matching our dedication to material culture and all within a tightly woven group.

Those new to the hobby who are interested in portraying a more accurate and experimental archeology focused side of the 18th century, will be warmly welcomed and provided with the necessary guidance and resources to participate as full, knowledgeable members of the Light Coy and its civilian side, the Civilians of Canada. The organization seeks to include those who are often left out of the opportunities available in living history and to share both our knowledge and skills with our peers and the community at large. The Light Company and the Civilians of Canada, will make use of its resources to explore new avenues of research and experimental archaeology, while also engaging in meaningful discussions, seminars, events and activities that will permit us to work with communities across North America, particularly Ontario, Quebec, the Maritime Provinces and the Eastern United States, doing so in both official languages of Canada.

Representing the Light Company of the 8th and the men and women making up Canada in the 18th century, this group participates in a variety of events across North America and beyond, though emphasis is placed on the Great Lakes expeditions and events, covering the historical actions of the Light Coy. and the 8th, at large, life in Quebec (now Ontario and Quebec), and New France. While this is our focus, expect to see us as far off as Nova Scotia to the East and the United States to the South, our membership is primarily based within the areas of Ontario, Quebec, and where sufficient interest is present, the neighbouring states.
